Arms & Armor

Weapons are a key aspect of many roleplaying games, and Fantasy AGE is no different. Consequently, the next task that we tackled was to make sure there were choices available for weapons, particularly the ones that the player’s current characters were using.

A perusal of the weapons presented in the Fantasy AGE Basic Rulebook provides a decent starting list of weapons to work with. Unfortunately, there are some holes in what is covered. The following list covers the different weapon groups that are missing in the basic rulebook, and identifies where information on them can be found.

  • Curved Blades (cutlass, falchion, scimitar) -> Introduced in Expanded Classes Open Community Playtest.
  • Flails (flail, scourge, two-handed flail) -> Introduced in Expanded Classes Open Community Playtest.
  • Martial Arts (staff, batons, fighting flail, martial tools) -> Introduced as a side bar in Fantasy AGE Companion.
  • Rope (garrote, lasso, whip) -> Introduced in Expanded Classes Open Community Playtest.
  • Slings (hunting sling, war sling, bola) -> Introduced the hunting and war slings in Fantasy AGE Trojan War. The bola is introduced in The Lost Citadel Fantasy AGE Conversion.
  • Throwing (light stone, heavy stone) -> Introduced in Fantasy AGE Trojan War.

The slings and curved blades were definite weapon groups that were needed in our group. To this we added the following PFRPG weapons, since they were popular with different part members, or NPCs.

  • Earth Breaker (Bludgeons Group) 2d6+3 damage, minimum Strength of 3, and 48 sp. Also added to this the ability to perform the Pierce Armor stunt for 1 SP.
  • Elven Curve Blade (Curved Blades Group) 2d6+3 damage, minimum Strength of 2, and 35 sp cost. Also added to this the ability to perform the Lightning Attack stunt for 2 SP.
  • Flickmace (Bludgeons Group) 2d6-1 damage, minimum Strength of 1, and 18 sp cost. Also, kept the ability to extend it as an activate action and compression as an average TN Dexterity (Legerdemain) free action basic test.

For each of these, we used existing FAGE options as a reference to create these versions of the weapons.

The armor selections that FAGE provides is pretty comprehensive, but if you’re looking for information on piece meal armor, then Fantasy AGE Trojan War is going to be where you’ll find useful information. Since our group isn’t making use of any piece meal armor, we didn’t spend much time looking into this aspect.
