While working on creating our own version of FAGE, I was inspired by the Human Cultures table found in The Lost Citadel Fantasy AGE Conversion book. So, I created something similar for Golarion based upon the human races, though I decided to call mine Human Ancestry. Admittedly, we decided not to use it, because we collectively felt that it over-complicated things, but I figured I’d share it here.
| Roll | Group | Ancestry | Ability Score | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | M | Azlanti | Any | Intelligence (Historical Lore) or Intelligence (Arcane Lore) |
| 4 | A | Bonuwat, Mwangi | Constitution or Intelligence | Communication (Bargaining) or Dexterity (Sailing) |
| 5 | B | Zenj, Mwangi | Communication or Strength | Dexterity (Acrobatics) or Perception (Tracking) |
| 6 | C | Kellids | Constitution or Willpower | Intelligence (Natural Lore) or Strength (Might) |
| 7 | D | Garundi | Accuracy or Willpower | Communication (Animal Handling) or Strength (Driving) |
| 8 | E | Keleshites | Communication or Dexterity | Dexterity (Sailing) or Willpower (Faith) |
| 9-10 | F | Chelaxians | Fighting or Willpower | Accuracy (Dueling) or Communication (Etiquette) |
| 11 | G | Varisians | Accuracy or Perception | Communication (Performance) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) |
| 12 | H | Taldans | Accuracy or Intelligence | Dexterity (Calligraphy) or Intelligence (Historical Lore) |
| 13 | I | Ulfen | Strength or Willpower | Constitution (Drinking) or Intelligence (Navigation) |
| 14 | J | Tians | Dexterity or Perception | Communication (Etiquette) or Strength (Jumping) |
| 15 | D | Vudrani | Accuracy or Willpower | Dexterity (Acrobatics) or Intelligence (Cultural Lore) |
| 16 | K | Shoanti | Perception or Strength | Constitution (Running) or Intelligence (Natural Lore) |
| 17 | H | Mauxi, Mwangi | Accuracy or Intelligence | Dexterity (Crafting) or Willpower (Faith) |
| 18 | L | Bekyars, Mwangi | Fighting or Perception | Dexterity (Stealth) or Willpower (Self-Discipline) |
I arranged the different ancestries in the manner that I did, because the group is currently based in Nirmathas. If you use this, then I recommend that you rearrange the order based upon what you feel is appropriate for your party’s starting region. A Google search will reveal many different analyses of 3d6 distributions. I used this one.
In the following table of human benefits, the group from the previous table is used to perform additional separation of the different ancestries.
| 2d6 Roll | Group | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| 2 * | B, F, G, I | +1 Intelligence |
| A, C, D, H, K | +1 Fighting | |
| E, J, L | +1 Willpower | |
| 3-4 | ALL | Focus: Constitution (Stamina) |
| 5 | ALL | Focus: Perception (Searching) |
| 6 | ALL | Focus: Communication (Persuasion) |
| 7-8 * | I, K, L | +1 Constitution |
| D, F, G, H, J | +1 Communication | |
| A, B, C | +1 Perception | |
| 9 * | A, C, I K, L | Focus: Communication (Deception) |
| D, F | Focus: Dexterity (Initiative) | |
| B, E, G, H, J | Focus: Constitution (Drinking) | |
| 10-11 * | A, B, C, I, K | Focus: Accuracy (Brawling) |
| D, F, H | Focus: Perception (Empathy) | |
| E, G, J, L | Focus: Strength (Climbing) | |
| 12 * | A, C, D | +1 Strength |
| E, F, J, K, L | +1 Accuracy | |
| B, G, H, I | +1 Dexterity |
The asterisk (*) after the numbers in the above table, represents that any of these are options for ancestries from group M.
Admittedly, this does add complexity to the character creation, but I do like the idea. So, perhaps we’ll be able to make use of this at some point in the future.
