As I continue to work on the first level of the dungeon, which is turning out to be much larger than I had originally thought it might be, I figured I’d share some of the mechanics of the dungeon.
Spawn Points
There are two kinds of spawn points, random generation and specific generation. Random generation spawn points are actually teleports. Specific spawn points generate a limited range of dwellers. Typically one kind, with a limited potential to spawn variants of that kind. For example, a specific spawn point may generate giant spiders, with specific chances for spawning spider variants within any spawned group of spiders.
| 2d6 | Result |
|---|---|
| 2 | 1 Elite Giant Spider + 1 Giant Spider / 4 CLs |
| 3-11 | 1 Giant Spider / 4 CLs |
| 12 | 1 Heroic Giant Spider + 1 Giant Spider / 4 CLs |
NOTE: CL is an abbreviation for Character Levels. This allows the encounter to scale, to some extent based upon the number and effective power of the characters involved.
Teleports
Teleports in the dungeon not only transfer characters from location to random location, but will also transfer dwellers in the same manner. Dweller transfer is based upon GM decision, but to maintain a sense of randomness, the characters get transferred based upon a role of 1d6 with 1 indicating that they get transferred. If a previous character or dweller has used the teleport location, then increase by 1 for each such being having just used the teleport. For example, if a party walks through a teleport location, the first and second characters may not be teleported, but the third, and potentially following characters could be teleported. To determine the location, roll 2d6. If the location rolled is the current location, the character is rotated 180° of their original orientation.
| Roll | Dweller |
|---|---|
| 3 | 1 Giant Spider / 4 CLs |
| 4 | 1 Bakwanee / CL |
| 5 | 1 Beastkin / CL |
| 6 | 1 Serpentfolk / CL |
| 7 | 1 Walking Dead / CL |
| 8 | 1 Orc / CL |
| 9-10 | 1 Goblin / CL |
| 11 | 1 Bouda / 2 CL |
| 12 | 1 Ooze / 4 CL |
| 13 | 1 Imp / CL |
| 14 | 1 Knifehound / 2 CL |
| 15 | 1 Living Doll / CL |
| 16 | 1 Morlock / CL |
| 17 | 1 Craterling / CL |
| 18 | 1 Troll / 4 CL |
Well, back to working on the map.
